An inaugural George Town City Day celebration will be held Jan 1 to commemorate George Town being elevated to the status of city by a Royal Charter granted by Queen Elizabeth II on Jan 1, 1957.
The 1111 cyclists parade is one of the groups taking part in the George Town City Day Celebration which will be held on 1 January 2011. We reckon this is a very meaningful event as cyclists in Penang are wooing support to make Penang a cleaner and greener place to live. Registration is now open to all cyclists on a first-come-first-served basis, limited to 1111 participants only. Registered cyclists will receive a T-shirt each to wear during the Parade.
A Certificate of Participation, signed by the Mayor of George Town, will be given to participants after the Parade. Registration is free of charge. Registration Form, copy attached, is also available at all bicycle shops in Penang. Participants are required to wear helmets and their bicycles shall have safety lighting. We call on you, cycling supporters, to come forward to share the joyous moment in the George Town City Day Celebration. Besides this is also an opportune occasion to convey a clear and sound message to the public.
